How rocket shoes work

This week, we are finishing our Explanation Writing unit by asking children to write their own explanation text. Tomorrow, the children will be writing an explanation of 'How rocket shoes work'. They can let their imaginations go wild with this title! Some children might like to draw a sketch of their imaginary rocket shoes at home tonight, which they can bring into class tomorrow should they wish.

Coming up this week.....

On Wednesday we are looking forward to our Redland Education Centre 'Easter Trail' trip. Please make sure your child gets to school promptly as we will be leaving at 9am. Children need a waterproof jacket incase of rain.

The Great Egg Race is on Thursday, so we hope to see some ingenious creations from the children taking part this year. Please take any Eggmobiles to the hall before school starts. In the afternoon, we will be having a Top Trumps competition in class. Any children who have their own packs at home are welcome to bring them in (named though, please). If your child has never played this brilliant card game before, don't worry! Members of the Top Trumps lunchtime club will be helping to teach the game to everyone. Top Trumps is a great game for teaching children facts and figures about various subjects, as well as encouraging teamwork and strategic play. Top Trumps is also excellent for consolidating numeracy skills.

On Friday, the last day of term, it is a non uniform day. Mrs Adams has told children that they may bring in their own games (non electronic) for an extended Golden Time session.

Toga-riffic!

What a fantastic toga array we have this afternoon!

We visited Miss Browne's classroom to watch Class 8 perform some Roman songs....

Our hilarious Roman jokes were a huge hit...

The banquet went down a treat...

Mr Gómez indulged a little too much and had to visit the vomitorium...

While Miss Cutler and Mrs Beer stuck to some healthy grapes...

We needed a spot of fresh air after all that feasting!

The afternoon was finished off with Class 7 performing their impressive Roman drama.

Little Red Riding Hood Extravaganza

This morning, Class 9 was treated to a wonderful performance of 'Little Red Riding Hood' from the Year 3 children. It was a magnificent dress rehearsal. Amazing singing, stunning sets, superb costumes and stupendous acting. What a talented bunch the Year 3 children are! Many thanks to all the (equally talented) Year 3 staff for their hard work.

Sporty Science

What a fantastic range of sporting heroes we have had in Class 9 today. Thank you for your donations.

We had a very active day linking our science topic with sport and activity today. In groups we planned investigations and enjoyed getting our pulses racing and flexing our muscles.

Sport Relief clothes tomorrow

Remember to bring a donation for wearing sports gear to school tomorrow! It's all in aid of Sport Relief and, although any effort you make will be appreciated, it would be even more fantastic if you could dress as your sporting hero. Mrs Adams looks forward to seeing you all looking super sporty tomorrow.

Golden Ticket Holder

Have you been a Golden Ticket Holder yet? Don't worry if you haven't.....your turn will come soon!

The Golden Ticket holder is chosen every week by Mrs Beer, and is rewarded with 10 unique privileges for that week only. At the end of the week, a special poster is taken home to keep, crammed full of complimentary messages from everyone in the class. It's a lovely way to celebrate all the great things about Class 9.

Buster the Class 9 Bulldog

Buster would like to say 'Thank you!' for the fantastic fun he has every week when spending some quality time with a Class 9 pupil. For those of you who have not yet had the pleasure of Buster's company, we make sure everyone has a turn before the end of Year 4. Pupils take him home for the week, and then write a diary about Buster's time with them. We keep the diary in the classroom and everyone has the chance to read it on their VIP reading day. It's a really popular choice. Each week, the Golden Ticket holder chooses the pupil who takes Buster home, and we read the diary entries out each Thursday during 'Showtime'. Lucky Buster!

The Romans rock!

Well, if Class 9 weren't enthused about the Romans before, they certainly will be after our trip today. What did we learn? Here goes......

We have dressed up as Roman legionaries, learnt about the work of an archaeologist (thanks to Mikey's dad for such a great start to the day), investigated Roman artefacts in a 'treasure hunt' challenge, learnt about life as a slave and as a rich Roman, re-enacted a Roman banquet and walked around Caerleon's real Roman barracks, including the latrine. Ask your child about sponges on sticks! We have also imagined sights, sounds and smells as we sat on the bunk beds in the reconstructed barrack room, seen a Roman bath, learnt about strigils, hypocausts and fridgidariums and - finally - raced around the magnificent ruins of the amphitheatre in the sunshine. What a wonderful day. Class 9, you were brilliant. Thankyou to the super team of parents who accompanied us today, we hope you enjoyed it as much as we did.

A few reminders about what your child will need:
School uniform tops as normal.
Children can wear their own trousers, as they may get a little muddy when exploring the amphitheatre.
Bring a packed lunch, snack and drink in a backpack (Your child will be carrying this around for most of the day)
Comfortable shoes, trainers or walking boots are fine, and warm clothing with a waterproof coat incase of bad weather.

We will be leaving Caerleon at 3pm, which means we will arrive back at school at around 4pm.
