Doctor visits Class 9

Today Sashank's Mum (who is a Doctor) came in and taught us lots of interesting facts about our bodies.

Did you know that you produce two litres of saliva a day!!
The longest bone in your body is the femur.

See if your child can remember any more interesting facts .....

Wow, wow, wow!

This afternoon has been 'sew' fantastic! Many thanks to you all for sending your child to school with some great bits and pieces to decorate their purses. Mrs Brand came in to join in the fun, and the children were so grateful to have an extra pair of adult hands. Many children have already finished their designing and making, take a look!

Book Fayre next week

During World Book week (next week), the Book Fayre will be visiting the school. Your child is bringing home a leaflet about some of the books that may be available. Class 9 will have the chance to buy a book on Wednesday, if they wish. Please make sure your child has money with them on Wednesday if they wish to buy a book. The Book Fayre will also be open for parents and children after school on Tuesday.

Thursday reminder!

As the children may have told you, we will be making purses and practising our sewing skills this week. We have already designed our purses and everyone is welcome to bring in any buttons, sequins, ribbons, decorations etc that they would like incorporated into their designs. Please ensure your child brings in anything 'extra' they may need on Thursday, as this will be the last day of our project. The school will be providing needles, thread and felt. Thankyou for your support.

Reading folders

A few children have asked if they need to bring reading folders into school now that they are half way through Year 4. We suggest that if your child already brings another bag to school they do not need their reading folder as well. Their reading record, planner and reading book can be brought to school in one bag. This means less for children to carry and more space in our cloakroom area. Thankyou.

Class 9 Open afternoons

This week (Tuesday 25th and Wednesday 26th February) we invite you to come in between 1:45 and 3:15 pm to look at your child's work with them. To balance numbers, we encourage surnames beginning A-K to come on Tuesday and surnames beginning L-Z to come on Wednesday.

Please come and collect your child from Class 9, where they will take their tray to the hall with you. We also welcome you to come and look around the classroom, as your child may like to show you something on display that they are proud of.

A relaxing start back....

Class 9 have had a creative morning, drawing and painting pictures of Roman Gods and Goddesses. Everyone is desperate to get them finished, ready for you to admire during Open Afternoon! We're sure you will be amazed at our efforts....

Class 9 reporters

Good morning. This is the news. Today, Class 9 have been practising being news reporters, by reporting on a flooding situation in Yorkshire. They have all used a newspaper article to inform their reports and have practised broadcasting from the studio and on location. Here we have two of our reporters about to go live on air....

Tomorrow, the class will be carrying on the news theme by completing their newspaper reports on another serious topic; the abduction of Mr Barber by aliens.

Moving and Growing

Today we started our new Science topic. First we drew round a person and then had to think of all the parts that we thought were inside our bodies. Each group presented their ideas really well. We have lots of questions to investigate over the next few weeks.

Remember to bring in any resources such as books to help with our research next Friday.

Noses in newspapers....

This week in Literacy, we have been looking at different types of recounts ( a recount is a piece of writing that describes an event that has already happened). We've learnt all about the structure of a newspaper recount, and hope to move on to writing our own newspaper recount soon. Here we are, looking super intelligent, reading a newspaper designed especially for children!

What's in the news?

To try and inspire children to take an interest in the world around them, we often talk in class about what is in the news. This week, we have started to display parts of newspaper articles we find interesting. Children are very welcome to bring in newspaper articles from home that have captured their interest, and we shall try our best to include them on our display board.

Super sewing

Today we have all tried our hand at running stitch, backstitch and over stitch (some tackled blanket stitch too). Our more confident sewers helped the less confident, which was lovely to see. Everyone threaded a needle without too much help, fantastic! Do feel free to keep practising at home, ready for our session next week when we will be sewing on felt, rather than Binca.
